Douglas Jack Agu popularly known as Runtown is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and producer, born on 19 August 1989 in Enugu.
But grew up partly in Abuja and Lagos, he received his primary education at Lagos. After the death of his father, he moved to Abuja with his mother who was working in the ministry of Health, during his Tender age he has always dreamed of becoming a professional basketball player. In 2005 he relocated to Enugu with his mother which he went on to finish his secondary education.
In 2007 he decided to move to Lagos from Enugu with Phyno, he started doing a collaboration with artists like J martins and Timaya, in 2008, he went ahead and partnered with Phyno to bring up record label PENTHAUZ.
In an interview, he said he acquired his musical inspiration from Sean Kingston, bob Marley, and Kenya west.
Runtown released his first single Titled “Runtown” which was produced by Soge in 2007, followed by the two single ” party like it’s 1980″ and “Activity Pikin” in 2008, his 2010 single titled ”Forever” had a video directed by Ivan Edd films.
Runtown also worked with Phyno on a song titled “Anamachi Versace” which was produced by wizzy pro.
In 2014 Runtown music came to a limelight when he released the hit single titled “Gallardo” Ft Davido produced by T-Spize. The song gained massive airplay both within across the country. The video hit over 418,000 views on YouTube in its first two months; the song later won the best collaboration of the year on Nigerian Entertainment Awards 2014
Runtown career took flight after he signed a multi-million naira record contract with Prince okwudiri uweyiora Record label Eric manny Entertainment, releasing “Successful” and “Domot”, both of which received frequent airplay.
Runtown released his debut studio album titled Ghetto University. The album featured artists like Dj khaled, Phyno, Wizkid, Uhuru and Anatii. The Album was listed in the ”Top 5 Most Streamed Artist” in Nigeria, generating over ₦35 million turns over on MTN Music Plus.
On May 2016 The superstar sought to terminate his contract with Eric Manny Entertainment upon an allegations that “he signs up, concludes and attends musical shows without the knowledge of the label”. The superstar, however, denied the allegations in an exclusive interview with Joey Akan of Pulse Nigeria. Runtown revealed that he quit the record label due to breaches in the recording contract, threat to life and extortion. But he later reconciled with the label on 2017.
